When the nights get darker after the clocks have gone back, we leaving in the morning to go to work and return in darkness. It is cold and wet, the sofa looks so appealing and the kitchen looks dingy, not to mention the thought of pulling the hat and gloves on again and heading to the food shops.
A survey conducted by www.just-eat.co.uk the UK’s leading online takeaway portal, asked 3,015 people in the UK what they estimate they spend on chinese food a month and combined it with the data from their website. The results showed that on average:
·There is a UK spend of £550 per year, £45 per month per person.
· One in three people would rather stay in on the weekends with their friends and family, indulge in a takeaway and stay in their pajamas than get glammed-up and hit the town.
The weather was a large influence in the decision, as
· In the warmer months, 76% of people said they prefer home cooked food using the bbq and eating alfresco.
When the summer comes, most of the UK deserts the homeland and heads off for sun and sea in hot countries, often spending £550 on a seven day break. When the winter months begin to arrive, out comes the computer and a quick search for the local takeaway options, the order is made amounting to approximately £550 per year.
Our research shows that when the clocks go back in October:
· Takeaway orders more than double with 104% more in sales
· Women said preferred a night in with a fella or a good night in with their friends, rather that a visit to the pub when the climate turned cold.
As winter draws in and the count down to Christmas begins:
·38% of women claimed no guilt for ordering a takeaway meal than possibly during summer time.89% of those asked agreed that a takeaway on the weekends is something that they look forward to.
·The number of people who buy a takeaway on both Friday and Saturday night was a staggering 61%.
