Making hummus is so inexpensive, I have no idea why people buy it in the store.

Ingredients
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups garbanzo beans (chickpeas) cooked
  • 1/2 cup aquafaba see notes
  • 1/2 cup tahini 100%
  • 1 juice of lemon or more if you like it
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt optional
Instructions
  1. Drop garlic in food processor and chop fine.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and process until smooth

  3. That’s it. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

I use my food processor for this, but it can also be made in a vitamix etc.

Aquafaba is the leftover liquid from cooking beans. If you made them from scratch save a cup or so. If you use a can, save the water. You can use it to adjust the thickness of the hummus. If you want this with no tahini, you can also use the aquafaba in place of it, but note that the texture will be different.

I always freeze my aquafaba from garbanzo beans since it is very versatile. For example you can make whipped “cream”.
